FISH FRY!

Jazzheimers performs every last Friday of the month at the Western Addition Senior Services Center at their neighborhood fish fry at 1390 Turk Street off Fillmore which attracts patients in neighborhood assisted living homes, neighborhood residents, people living with Alzheimer's and other disablities.

The current Jazzheimers group here is Marlina Teich, guitar and vocals; Jules Broussard, saxophone; Art Khu, piano and bass and drums.

PLACES WE PLAY

Most of the places Jazzheimers performs at are in and around the Western Addition or FIllmore District of San Francisco.   It is the area that has been historically at-risk.  At the same time, it is an area that is known for its exciting Jazz legacy of the 1950s when the likes of Billie Holliday, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, could be seen at a club or even walking down Fillmore Street.   Guitar extraordinare Junius Simmons, formerly with Earl Fatha Hines, Pharoah Saunders, Dexter Gordon and the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band, is a product of that era and performs regulary with the Jazzheimers Orchestra.  Other performers include residents of the area as well, such as former Chuck Mangione bassist Ed Williams, drummer, Eddie Marshall, bassist Saunders, son of the late Merle Saunders and others..
