PLACES WE PLAY

Most of the places Jazzheimers performs at are in and around the Western Addition or FIllmore District of San Francisco.   It is the area that has been historically at-risk.  At the same time, it is an area that is known for its exciting Jazz legacy of the 1950s when the likes of Billie Holliday, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, could be seen at a club or even walking down Fillmore Street.   Guitar extraordinare Junius Simmons, formerly with Earl Fatha Hines and Dizzy Gillespie Big Band, is a product of that era and performs regulary with the Jazzheimers Orchestra.  Other performers include residents of the area as well.
