1. Jazzheimer's uses professionally trained musicians from the Bay Area representative of the population served, for instance, residents of the Western Addition.
2. Jazzheimer's provides live jazz music on a regular basis to venues where people living with Alzheimer's would typically not have access. Hearing famiilar songs played by musicians that are empathetic and accessible helps those with disabling disorders like Alzheimer's make sense of their physical, emotional and social world.
3. Every show is different and Jazzheimers makes every attempt to put the needs of the patients/audience first. For instance, before and after each performance a Jazzheimer's representative generally speaks with an Acitivities Director or other staff person so that the program is evaluated on an ongoing basis. Sometimes Jazzheimer's needs to play lively music, sometimes more mellow, depending on the people with Alzheimer's needs at the time.
