WELCOME TO THE JAZZHEIMERS WEBSITE

JAZZHEIMERS' mission is to preserve dialogue, through music, that might otherwise be lost by limitations of the communication abilities of people with Alzheimer's and related dementias.

WHAT IS JAZZHEIMERS?

Jazzheimers' goes to locked psychiatric wards, institutions, convalescent homes, free lunch programs and other places that include people living with Alzheimer's and related concerns such as developmental disabiltiies. The jazz that we perform are mostly standards and show tunes that people with Alzheimer's often remember.   The improvisation played by top-quality, professional jazz musicians is more often than not aligned with the melody keeping the music memorable and accessible to the listener.

Of course, there are many people visiting family and friends living with Alzheimer's.  This can be very difficult.  But when the visitors observe  their loved ones enjoy the music they often feel better, too.  This is true for the staff as well.

Every year since March 2007 JAZZHEIMER'S has performed live jazz in over 25 Alzheimer's related venues, including convalescent hospitals, assisted living programs, and lunch for seniors and disabled programs in and around the Western Addition.
